What do you know about out sourcing and the effect it has on our economy?

3.2 Million Americans lost jobs due to out sourcing.Meaning the jobs closed down here and reopened in another country. The stock exchange shows our economy as good because these companies are doing great in sales and making huge profits because of the cheaper labor overseas. While our unemployment rate is low the people themselves are working lower paying jobs in the service industry. Thus creating many home foreclosures etc.So what do you think of out sourcing?

What do you know about out sourcing and the effect it has on our economy?

I think you can thank Clinton%26#039;s passing NAFTA:

Clinton is the corporate fascist darling who got all Reagan and Bush%26#039;s dirty work finally accomplished for them.

But at least Reagan got all the family farms killed and got agribusiness going.

What a great American hero.

It was going on before, actually, steadily for the last 30 or so years that we were losing manufacturing jobs,

But thanks to NAFTA being passed, our manufacturing jobs who employed millions of blue collar workers left in scores.

We will one day be living in an elitist society and everyone else will be flipping burgers for one another.

I suppose the corporations never have to worry if we%26#039;ll be able to afford their products made by slave labor,

....that%26#039;s what the multibillion dollar credit card corporations are for.

What do you know about out sourcing and the effect it has on our economy?

I am vehemently opposed to it. Of course, as a programmer, it%26#039;s easy for me to be opposed to having software engineering jobs offshored to India and Russia, but I also work against offshoring other work, like call center jobs. For example, my %26quot;hometown%26quot; airline, Delta -- the last time I called, I was placed on hold for ten minutes, THEN I got to speak to a rep in India. The first thing out of my mouth was %26quot;kindly transfer me to an agent in the United States.%26quot; Conversely, American Airlines, my call was immediately transferred to a rep in the United States. Guess which airline I fly now?

In cases where I%26#039;m stuck with the offshore call center rep, I am respectful that this person is just feeding his/her family. However I will say something like %26quot;Hey, when you have a moment, why don%26#039;t you Google for %26#039;collective bargaining%26#039;?%26quot; Planting the seeds of discontent. Excellent.|||it took the jobs which also took the money that can no longer be spent here which means higher prices for everyone else and a little thing called a recession|||Outsourcing would actually be good it the jobs stayed in this country. There are many examples where outsourcing is positive, particularly in the HR fields and payroll services.

The problems arise when production is outsourced to labor in another country. It leaves an entire class in America jobless.|||i think its the logical conclusion to unions attempting to hold companies for ransom for unrealistic wages and benifits. the reason why european economies are surapassing the us is liberal involvemnt in restricitng trade and wages instead of job retraining and tax credit. a perfect example is the pelosi/reid regimes ridiculous attempt to prop up farming by eliminating the new energy oil exploration credit. rather than beat up businesses as most liberals do, a more effective way to stem this problem is to look at job retraining and wage support tied to rehire rather than unemployment.|||Corporations act as the primary vehicle for the plutocrats to maintain their economic tyranny over US citizens, and much of the rest of humanity. Operating with many of the legal rights of a human being, the corporation provides an ideal shield behind which the wealthy can evade personal responsibility for raping the earth, plundering the public treasury, enslaving the populace with artificially low wages, abusing human rights, and forming complex, incestuous networks with governments.

Wal-Mart leads the charge in corporate suppression of employee compensation and workers%26#039; rights, and has done significant damage to the US economy. This corporate behemoth is the largest private sector employer in the US, with 1.2 million employees. Their power to influence the US economy is significant, and they have grossly abused that power. Average wages at Wal-Mart are significantly less than those paid by comparable employers for similar work. To avoid offering benefits, Wal-Mart maintains a work-force that is one third part time. They have aggressively fought unionization, which would essentially force them to pay fair wages and offer decent benefits. (What a blow to America it would be if Wal-Mart allowed a socialist entity to slither into their capitalist organization and demand that they treat their employees like human beings). Wal-Mart%26#039;s buying power and draconian demands for cheap goods have caused many suppliers to go out of business or move their operations overseas where labor is less expensive. Revealing the lie behind their %26quot;Buy American%26quot; propaganda of the 1990%26#039;s, Wal-Mart buys billions of dollars worth of goods from China each year ($15 billion in 2004). When Wal-Mart opens a store in a small community, they often put virtually every competitor out of business, leaving the local citizens dependent upon them for both employment and the purchase of necessities. Once Wal-Mart becomes their largest of sole employer, local governments are subject to the tyranny of the Bentonville Behemoth. I didn%26#039;t realize their %26quot;always low prices%26quot; could be so expensive.|||i think it%26#039;s one of the worst things we can do for our economy....

yes, big businesses will make a lot in the short run...but once the nations they outsource to catch up to us and start asking for more money they will be out of luck...even before that, they will be sorry when every person that could afford their products in the first place are fired because their job went to India.|||People are losing their homes and are living in their cars. This country can no longer stand the greedy fascist policies of the Neoconservatives. Write to your senate and tell them.|||Ever since NAFTA, which caused me to change from democrat to independent, I am totally against free trade. The trade agreements we now have in place in America are the cause of huge deficits yet allow business to practice some of the most underhanded, unethical, morally repugnant behavior to attack middle-class America primarily and the poorest among us secondarily. It was basically the start of government allowing big business to say to its workers if you don%26#039;t compete with illegal labor or cheap foreign labor, you WILL lose your job and we will say we are doing what is necessary to survive in the global atmosphere of trade. I could almost believe some of that if it were not for the fact that executive level management, say ten people, probably pull out more than a half billion dollars a year from said companies. Don%26#039;t tell me I have to compete with forced communist workers while the CEO is compensated to the tune of one hundred million in a single year, one person. Our economy appears to be healthy if you measure it using the DOW. If you look under the covers, the patient is sick and getting worse. Home foreclosures up, credit card debt up, gasoline, insurance, medicine, health care and the endless list goes on and on. When most of the American jobs are outsourced, where will we be as a country?|||As someone that runs a company let me tell you this. Out sourcing has some real benefits for a company. HR and IT are good to out source as they are generally non value added parts of a business. As has been stated there are many types of out sourcing and not all are bad. The reality here is that the U.S. consumer wants everything now and everything cheap. This is because they are living beyond their means and they need cheap. The U.S. consumer is unwilling to support their standard of living. It now costs more to produce anything here because we want to make a good wage and that is fine. The problem really is that if the U.S. product is higher in price the consumer won%26#039;t buy it in most cases. I see and hear the complaining from the same people that drive their import car to fill with import gas to go home to sit on their import couch and watch their import TV while talking on their import phone. In this import age companies have to compete with what the market is offering. The market is offering cheap imports so you go that direction or go out of business. Poltians have sold the maufacturing base down the river and that is a fact. People cry and moan and blame companies for all of this and they are just wrong. We are no longer a producing nation, we are a consuming nation and we want to consume at the lowest price. There are two schools of thought here that anyone wanting to make money needs to think of. Do you want to be the person that manufactures things or do you want to be the one that sells things? I am a seller because we will manufacture less and less as time goes by, but no matter where it comes from it still needs to be sold.

How did Sea Power in WWII bring the U.S. into one of its biggest economic Boom?

what was the record employment and unemployment rate in U.S. during WWII, Great Depression, and after WWIII?

How did it bring the Women into the labor force?

How did it push the U.S. into a manufacturing country?

How did Sea Power in WWII bring the U.S. into one of its biggest economic Boom?

Another semi intelligent question.

The shipbuilding industry created thousands of jobs and women had to fill the mens shoes when they went into the services

The US was a safe place to build ships and the demand for cheap and nasties was high. The famous %26quot;Liberty Ship was a one voyage wonder because that was all it was designed for and many were sunk because of poor design and faulty construction %26quot;en route%26quot; maiden voyage.

It didn%26#039;t change the US from chasing the almighty dollar.

Looks like Satan waited till the last minute to do his homework. Shame, shame!|||ok the reason why the employment rate went up for women is because most of the men were off at war so they had to fill in their spots. The women pretty much built tanks and made ammunition for the war. We needed to build more factories to keep up with the demand of weapons and vehicles for the war.

What needs 2 happen in America to prepare the workforce for the changing world, so that we do not fa

The American workforce is facing a changing world. American jobs are being outsourced to other countries and jobs are being lost in America.

September 2007, the U.S. Department of Labor reported that the unemployment rate was 4.6 and -4000 was added.

I beleive many Americans want American jobs to stay in America, and make jobs availiable to Americans citizens.

Globalization is great. Today, we now live in a borderless business environment, but if companies are sending jobs to other countries and the American general workforce will not benefit from this business model, who wins? Certainly not American workers, because we can not get a good paying job.

Again, what do we need to do as a country, to better prepare American workers, so we do not fall behind other countries with regard to jobs and a quality workforce?

What needs 2 happen in America to prepare the workforce for the changing world, so that we do not fall behind?

In the last 25 years, our manufacturing base has been cut in half.Too late to cry about it now.Best course for the young and talented is to acquire skills that have a global marketability.Rest of America will need to learn how to get by with less while buying foreign made junk at Wally World.

What needs 2 happen in America to prepare the workforce for the changing world, so that we do not fall behind? loan

Question comes too late.|||On the low end spectrum, if America wants to compete with foreign cheap labor, they%26#039;re going to have to work for low wages and for fewer benefits. Their is no way around this; you have to compete with what%26#039;s available and the most desperate people will work for whatever they can. Even on the high end field this is true. I%26#039;m a computer programmer, my field used to enjoy incredibly lucrative salaries. Not so much anymore, Indian programmers will do the same quality of work for about $10-$20 / hour. Gone are the days when a programmer could easily be making 6 figures several years out of college.

One way America could increase its manufacturing economy is by signing off on some type of amnesty or guest worker program. This would increase company%26#039;s incentives to operate within America (and pay taxes to our government).

What country is this?

The main language of this country is over 50% derived from Latin

While still relatively low, the unemployment rate in this country is over 11%

This country鈥檚 head of state is technically a monarch, but he/she holds little actual power

It isn%26#039;t France, because France certainly doesn%26#039;t have a monarch, figurehead or not (the French Revolution took care of that one).

Italian and Spanish are romance languages derived from Latin, but Greek is not, so that rules out Greece.

According to Wikipedia, Spain is officialy the Kingdom of Spain organized as a parliamentary monarchy, which means the head of state is a monarch with little actual power.

I%26#039;m going to go with Spain on this one, as I%26#039;m pretty sure Italy doesn%26#039;t have a monarch.|||Let%26#039;s eliminate the obvious:

Germany and France and Italy have no monarch.

Greek is not derived from Latin.

We%26#039;re left with England and Spain. Both have a monarchy. I would doubt that the English language is 50% derived from Latin, however. The unemployment statistic doesn%26#039;t match up with what is found online, but Spain has a higher unemployment rate than England. Doing a search on Spain major industries came up with more or less the list you provided.

So, I%26#039;d say Spain.|||spanish derived from latin

Spain has a monarch

france has no monarch

england doesn%26#039;t use the euro

germany is a germanic language, i don%26#039;t think it derived from latin.

so i have to say, it is spain

Is immigration bad for the U.S.?

Copyright The Filipino Express Apr 3-Apr 9, 2006

[Headnote]

EDITORIAL

ACROSS America, there is still a lingering resentment and fear of immigrants. Much of these sentiments can actually be traced to long-standing myths about immigrants and their negative impact on the US economy.

The most pervading misconception about immigrants is that they are a drain on the economy. On the contrary, immigrants actually contribute a lot to the nation%26#039;s economy, which, according to the National Research Council (NRC), could be as high as $10 billion per year.

The average immigrant actually pays $1,800 more in taxes than the cost of the public benefits, such as health care and education, that he or she receives. A study by the University of Florida in 2001 showed that the average immigrant actually paid 25 percent more taxes than do a citizen: $5,485, compared to $4,180.

Undocumented immigrants are actually subsidizing the US social security. The Social Security Administration has an Economic Suspense File - contributions that cannot be matched to workers%26#039; names and social security numbers - that had accumulated $463 billion as of 2002. This is due largely to undocumented immigrants who pay their dues but cannot claim benefits.

Another erroneous belief about immigrants is that they are stealing away jobs from Americans. The reality is that the American workforce is aging and the population is not growing fast enough to fill the jobs. From 2002 to 2012, the number of Americans 55 years and over is projected to increase by nearly 50 percent; those aged 25 to 54 will rise by only 5.1 percent.

Without the infusion of immigrants into the labor force, many industries would not have enough manpower to sustain their operations. A labor shortage could force companies to shut down, which in turn could adversely affect the US economy.

If indeed foreign workers are crowding out Americans for jobs, then the number of out-of-work Americans ought to be high. But the Pew Hispanic Center reported in late March that even though undocumented immigrants hold about seven million jobs, the US unemployment rate was at a low 5.4 percent.

Unfortunately, lawmakers in both Houses of Congress hostile to immigration have done an excellent job of perpetuating the myths and obscuring the realities about-immigrants in the United States.

The country wants to preserve what they have already and why should we be any different!|||You need to stop believing the liberal lie. Very few are against IMMIGRATION. The HUGE MAJORITY are against ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION!

Now to answer your question:

Is immigration bad for the US? Not unless unchecked.

Is ILLEGAL immigration bad for the US? ABSOLUTELY!!! NO QUESTION ABOUT IT!!|||Immigration is good. Illegal immigration is bad. Check back with me when your reading comprehension advances to the level where you understand the difference between immigrating legally and sneaking across the border.|||no; not at all, only illegal immigration is bad for us because it we pay for it not them, and all the jobs they claim to fill were once filled by Americans or legal immigrants and when you speak on an aging American work force that would only be in the professional market not the labor market this country has more than enough laborers to do the job with-out them being illegally here. in-fact we offer incentives to professionals to come here legally because we are looking for skilled professionals. really anyone can pick fruits and vegetables, flip burgers and cut lawns and before the influx of illegals there were Americans and legals who did the job just fine. believe me no-one here is against immigration; just the illegal type.|||There is a difference between legal immigration and illegal aliens coming into a country.....legal immigrates pay their own way..illegal aliens ..well, you take a look at these numbers and decide..... http://www.immigrationcounters.com/ by the way, the money being wired out does not go back into the economy...so, you have to look at this as a loss.....|||Meanwhile wages in the middle class and lower-middle class are stagnant. The only ones growing currently are in the upper range ie the top 20%. Would this have anything to do with a mass influx of labor?

Makes one wonder why the 50%26#039;s were described as a tight labor market with ever increasing wages. But government dependency is not an issue, is it? Illegals don%26#039;t take as much as their children....ohh....

Do you literally think that in places like Calfornia where they%26#039;re suggested to spend upwards of 8k-11k per child in education...that illegal immigrants are contributing enough!? That must be some good propaganda crack...because there%26#039;s no chance of that.

Most of our schools are primarily funded by property tax and then state income...not federal income. An average illegal immigrant is not going to afford the house which pays that sort of money in yearly taxes, nor is he going to contribute that much in state income. Any assertion to that, is an outright lie.

Perhaps you should post your links to your stories....|||Everything has it%26#039;s good and bad. People will say it%26#039;s bad, it really depends on how good it is. Immigration is great (good) for us, but we do need to fix the things that are not good about it.

So, immigration is not bad for the US.

If Republicans are all for "small government", what's with the "War on Drugs&quo

If Republicans are all for %26quot;small government%26quot;, what%26#039;s with the %26quot;War on Drugs%26quot;?

I think you are confusing several distinctly separate issues and are attempting to tie them all together into one neat little package.

First, who is the government? It is %26quot;We The People...%26quot; You may have been too zoned out in your governments class to catch the part about the basis of all civilizations being built upon governing laws designed to protect. You don%26#039;t strike me as the type to REALLY study the chemical composition of the various %26quot;plants to which you refer, their effects on the cell structure as well as the residule effects. Perhaps you should.

Your spelling (%26quot;beurocracy%26quot;) is even worse than mine! You were sitting in the back of the class? Or, you simply didn%26#039;t see a need to make it that day...

Here%26#039;s a thought for you: The poor are poor because of bad life decisions -- repeated decisions. You honestly think getting blasted out of one%26#039;s mind is going to help them make better decisions? They have little to no money, so you condone the idea of them spending what little they do not have on %26quot;recreation%26quot; such as Ipods, cell phones, beer, cigarettes and %26quot;plants?%26quot; I thought that was what cable TV was for!!! Personally, I%26#039;m tired of my tax dollars being wasted on this class of people and those who would condone the advocacy of such %26quot;lifestyles.%26quot;

If Republicans are all for %26quot;small government%26quot;, what%26#039;s with the %26quot;War on Drugs%26quot;?

You left out the part about the evil Republicans and the CIA running the drug trade and making billions off of the misery of the poor minorities.|||I couldn%26#039;t agree more. And there is not much I could add to your thoughts...except that the decriminalization (note, not legalization) of marijuana would cut down the criminal statistics dramatically. This would be a very good first step. That, and the government getting their priorities straight...and focussing their attentions on issues that are important to the country, and winnable!|||Actually just to add to this. If that is their mission in which they claim it is, why do they avoid talking about it? Maybe because under this administration they have added something near 200,000 govt. jobs since Buttwipe took office. Seems kind of backwards huh.|||If you can%26#039;t see why preventing the flow of illegal drugs into America is important, you need some serious help.|||Also, they pretend to want to keep %26quot;big brother%26quot; out of America, yet see no problem with our army standing behind the Iraqi government and pointing a gun at the population.|||That is another interesting paradox of the supposed get rich republicans. If they wanted to get rich, they quit the war on drugs and tax them. Then they would have their friends import them for the fabulous profits.

And for Aslonas 鈥?you might think about what are the differences between republicans and conservatives.

%26quot;People sleep peaceably in their beds at night only because rough men stand ready to do violence on their behalf.%26quot;

- George Orwell|||You sound like you%26#039;re on drugs.|||Today%26#039;s republicans are more interested in the government regulating morality than they are about them upholding the Constitution of the United States of America.|||Because the GOP has too many fianancial ties to the drug industry to REALLY care about our kids more than money!|||The %26quot;War on Drugs%26quot; is just propaganda for show. There is no war it%26#039;s for appearences only. If they really wanted to get rid of drugs in the US they would have already.

I believe the government keeps illegal drugs in the market because honestly it controls Americans. It keeps people satiated and content. Imagine what it would be like if alcohol was suddenly banned? If it%26#039;s a violent place now, it we would be 100 times more so. Same reason cigarettes are not banned even though it%26#039;s proven harmful to your health.|||This is a very good question, but the dilemma is that most street drugs cause such things as paranoia and extreme anger and these lead very easily to violent behavior. And the truth is that most violent crimes, statistically, are performed by people who are on these street drugs at the time. So your question almost answers itself. I will say, though, I believe the government contributes to the drug problem in this country because there%26#039;s no way they can%26#039;t stop these illegal drugs from coming into our country - just no way. So, in the end, the whole thing, as you said, really does just perpetuate itself, doesn%26#039;t it?|||Their claims about a small government are purely propaganda...totally false......

Under the current administration, the size of the government in both number of people working, as well as expenditures, have risen to their highest levels in the history of the republic.

Dont be fooled.......|||The only difference between republicans and democrats is that I detest democrats more than I detest republicans.

I am a constitutional conservative and I DON%26#039;T support big government or the stupid war on drugs.

I consider both democrat and republicans to be looking out for what is best for them politically. Give a government money and power they shouldn%26#039;t have in the first place and you%26#039;ll rarely get it back.

The government, republican and democrat both are OUT OF CONTROL and we need a CLEAN SWEEP of the entire government to get rid of these career politicians that form the political class and are out for their own interests, NOT what is right and good for the country.|||The %26quot;small government%26quot; claim is just propoganda. Over the last 5 years the United States government has mushroomed in size and accumulated 3 TRILLION dollars of debt. All of this while under GOP control.

The GOP has always attacked Democrats and %26quot;Tax and Spend%26quot; but the story they won%26#039;t tell everyone is that the Republicans %26quot;BORROW and SPEND MORE%26quot;.

It will finally come to a nasty conclusion in 2020 when 33% of the US budget will be to pay interest on the DEBT !!! Wait until you see what the taxes will have to grow to in order to keep enverything else funded.

The only thing small about the GOP government is the long term planning.|||You are talking about a major, life-threatening epidemic in this counry! Small government or big government needs to step in for the safety issues. What in hell would this world be like w/ 1/2 the population stoned or high and putting their lives as well as innocent lives in constant danger? We have enough degenerates running loose as is and there are times when government mandates are necessary.|||I believe that the so called war on drugs is a farce. If you want to find the truth about why drugs, especially certain ones, are illegal, follow the money. What industries, for example, benefit the most from the fact that marijuana is illegal? If you want to learn the truth about most anything, the same thing applies...follow the money. Whoever has the most to gain, in terms of profit, is most likely behind whatever you are asking about! *sm*|||First, you%26#039;re statistics about 50% of jailed offenders in prison for drug offenses is inaccurate. The majority of those incarcerated for drug related offenses are for the sale and distribution of drugs!

Second, it is not the US government alone that provides for law making marijuana and THC illegal.

The United States with its International Treaties and agreements relate the following:

The Congressional findings in 21 U.S.C. 搂 801(7), 21 U.S.C. 搂 801(a)(2), and Template:21 state that a major purpose of the CSA is to %26quot;enable the United States to meet all of its obligations%26quot; under international treaties - specifically, the 1961 Single Convention on Narcotic Drugs and the 1971 Convention on Psychotropic Substances. The CSA bears many resemblances to these Conventions. Both the CSA and the treaties set out a system for classifying controlled substances in several Schedules in accordance with the binding scientific and medical findings of a public health authority. Under 21 U.S.C. 搂 811 of the CSA, that authority is the Secretary of Health and Human Services (HHS). Under Article 3 of the Single Convention and Article 2 of the Convention on Psychotropic Substances, the World Health Organization is that authority.

A provision for automatic compliance with treaty obligations is found at 21 U.S.C. 搂 811(d), which also establishes mechanisms for amending international drug control regulations to correspond with HHS findings on scientific and medical issues.

Unfortunately, many young drivers don%26#039;t understand the risks associated with marijuana use. Approximately one in six (15%) teens reported driving under the influence of marijuana, a number nearly equivalent to those who reported driving under the influence of alcohol (16%), despite higher prevalence of alcohol consumption among teens.

Research shows that smoking pot affects concentration, perception, coordination and reaction time, many of the skills required for safe driving.

In 2001, an approximately 38,000 high school seniors in the U.S. crashed while driving under the influence of marijuana and 46,000 crashed after driving under the influence of alcohol.

This response is NOT to make judgement against anybody...but to provide facts from reliable sources and not from teenage friends. There is no mistake that marijuana COULD be used responsibly just as drinking alcohol.

The problem lies with those who drink/drug and drive (in my own opinion). Additionally, my opinion is that until our government, based upon the majority vote, decides to rescind those international treaties and sway the medical authorities to change their opinion of marijuana, it will stay classified as a Schedule I drug!

Best wishes!|||The %26quot;small government%26quot; rhetoric of Republicans has been aimed primarily at the topic of ECONOMIC regulations. Historically, the federal government%26#039;s most important priorities have been to ensure a healthy, growing national economy and to ensure national security. Drug regulation was traditionally understood as being a subject regulable by the states.

The federal-jurisdiction/state-jurisdiction dichotomy has been signifigantly blurred during the 20th century. The federal government has been taking on an increasing sense of responsibility to %26quot;fight crime%26quot; and to nationalize issues which were previously at the discretion of the states instead. Much of the reason for this has been because of the Supreme Court%26#039;s interpretations of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

I am not interested in addressing your belief that drugs are used by non-violent persons and are less dangerous than murderers, child molesters, and rapists. I am only trying to respond to the issue of why the Republicans seem to have abandoned their belief in %26quot;small government.%26quot;|||There is no war on drugs. To much money is being made from drugs. The police department make money from seize property, lawyers make money from the arrest, Rich people get rich by up fronting money to dealers, politician skimming money from programs and making jobs for friends, etc.

If they wanted to stop cocaine from coming to the US, if would be cheaper to buy all the coca leaves in South America and burn them.
