Why does the FAA treat it's employees like dirt? Do they really think any idiot can control air

The FAA has frozen Controller pay for 5 years. They start new trainees at 8 something an hour. This is a short career. They force you out at 56 just when other careers are reaching their peak earning period. No respect for employees at all. They can cancel the vacation you have already paid for at the last minute. They think there are a lot of people available to replace the retiring experienced controllers. They will soon find that the candidates who could actually do this rather difficult and complicated job are capable of making a living elsewhere, with less stress on their physical and mental health. Not to mention better hours. The job market is pretty tight for smart, dedicated people right now. The unemployment rate is quite low. People that wanted to be controllers are now turning down the job due to the anti-worker mentality of the FAA. GOOD LUCK FLYING PUBLIC !!

I feel the impact of your statement. I am a CTI student at the University of North Dakota, and plan to work as an air traffic controller for the FAA. I think that many of the mandates that treat people to a lesser standard is from the lack of oversight from the highest in the organization. Having a new FAA administrator in a little over a year will help immensely, I believe, for employee morale, standards for working, and the salary system. I hope that I am able to serve the country in the same way you have, because I love the job of air traffic control, but if hostilities continue, I may stay in school to attain another major.

Sounds about everywhere I have ever worked. I guess the grass is not greener on the other side of the fence.
