Through a telephone survey, a low-interest bank credit card is offered to 400 households. The responses are as tabled.

Accept offer4030

Reject offer210120

a)(7 pts) If someone who accepted the offer is selected at random, what is the probability that he earns at least $40,000?

b)(7 pts) What is the probability that one of the respondents, selected at random, accepted the offer?

aI%26#039;m assuming that you meant to put a %26lt; sign where there is that little square:

a.) So we know that 40 + 30 accepted the offer:

70 people accepted the offer and 30 of them make more than 40000, so the probability that a person makes more than 40000 is: (people that make more than 40000) divided by (total number of people who accepted the offer).

In this case, the answer is: 30/70, which is 3/7. The probability is 3/7.

b.) So, there were 400 total respondents, and 70 of them accepted the offer:

So the probability one of them accepted the offer is:

(the number of people who accepted the offer) divided by (the total number of respondents).

The answer in this case is:

70/400= 7/40

a) 30/70 = 3/7

b) 70/400 =7/40|||I assume you want to know how to figure this out and not just the answer.

a) (you have to change the %26#039;at least%26#039; to %26#039;more than%26#039; to be able to do this)

70 people accepted the offer

30 of them were %26gt;40K

so the probability is 30/70 or .429 or 42.9%

b) 70 people out of 400 accepted the offer

so the probabilty is 70/400 or .175 or 17.5%
