What do you think of Mission work in 3rd world countries?

We provide food, water, clothes, shoes etc. to Haitian villages. We go in the %26quot;name of the Lord%26quot; but do not preach to them. We just love them. Especially the children. The Haitian government doesn%26#039;t do much for their people. There is 85% unemployment rate. If others don%26#039;t come in and help these people, they are doomed. Do you think this is a good thing? Why or why not?

With all due respect to the previous answerer, I don%26#039;t find it hard to believe that you don%26#039;t preach. There are many different Christian perspectives, and the church I belong to would likely have major issues with a missionary who thought that the job should be about preaching. There is no better way to reach people%26#039;s hearts than by loving them, and that implies helping them with their most basic needs.

I think it is a fantastic thing to go into a foreign country to do this kind of work, though it is also a calling, which means that not everyone is meant to do it. If you have reflected on all the difficulties very carefully and still believe you are meant to do this, then good on you! However, there is no shame in deciding that you, with your own personality and strengths, can do better for people right here at home.

And you don%26#039;t preach to them. Why do I find that hard to believe?|||Its great that you%26#039;re doing such good work! That%26#039;s wonderful. Its great that they know you are helping them in the LORD%26#039;s name.

I do hope that eventually you will share the good news though - that%26#039;s what we%26#039;re called by Jesus to do in missions. They can have physical sustinence, but without the LORD, they%26#039;re still lost.

It%26#039;s like a parant that keeps changing the kid after he%26#039;s supposed to outgrow it. It you do that long enough, the kid will need changing and breast feeding when he%26#039;s 12.|||Yeah i agree with point made above, you should not give it to the people, but teach them how to produce it themselves and give them the raw materials|||I think that some of the things that are going on in South East Asia are despicable and horrific (Refusing to give starving people food until they convert to Christianity, tearing part families by converting half of the family members and telling them to convert the rest).

As long as religion is left out of it and charity is given freely it is an admirable and wonderful practice, but when missionaries begin to force Christianity on people it becomes sickening.|||The poor do not want to hear the gospel when they are starving to death or freezing. We have to speak to their needs first and then preach, the Mormons claim to have been the first to reach the survivors of in New Orleans, I am sure a couple of those survivors are now Mormons. I have heard stories of people handing out toys and they knew there was not enough to go around, but like the fish and bread, God multiplied it and there was enough to go around, they kepted pulling more toys out of the box and knew they only had a certian amount and that there couldn%26#039;t have been enough for all.|||1. Christian missionaries in America are deadly. They carry the virus called %26#039;American cultural values%26#039;.|||I%26#039;ve seen your so-called missionary work here in New Orleans, which currently is like a 3rd world country. You people show up, gut houses, help rebuild, then start preaching %26#039;the word%26#039;, after insisting that%26#039;s not what you came to do. If you want to help people, quit the missionary work and join the Peace Corp.
